Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases increased to 196,487 on Tuesday, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, with 597 new infections.
On Wednesday morning, the NCDC announced this on its verified website.
It claimed that this was the total number of infections in the country since the index case in 2020, blaming the third wave’s outbreak on the highly transmissible Delta variant and low vaccination rates across the country.
According to the Nigerian News Agency, the new infections are down from the 379 cases reported on Monday.
The Public Health Agency also reported that 17 new COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 2,573.

It stated that “Four States – Abia, Nasarawa, Ondo, and Sokoto – reported zero cases.”
According to the NCDC, 277 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been released from various isolation centers across the country.
The country had successfully managed 185,159 in the 36 states and the FCT, according to the report.
Out of the country’s roughly 200 million people, over 2. 8 million samples of the virus were tested, according to the agency.
A multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, continued to coordinate national response activities, according to the NCDC.
