Former Senator Tunde Ogbeha, who served as Kogi West’s representative, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ogbeha said that the party had lost its course and had devolved into a shell of its former self in a letter to the chairman of PDP Ward A in Lokoja LGA.
“I hereby formally notify you of my decision to leave the party with immediate effect,” he wrote.
Ogbeha claimed that even after the 2015 general election, when many defected from the PDP, he stayed faithful to it.
He stated, “You may remember that I have stayed steadfast and steadfastly dedicated to the principles of the PDP over the years.”
“After our defeat in the 2015 presidential election, almost all party members left, but I vowed to be the last man standing.”

The former senator claimed that once the party lost power, he sought to rebuild and reposition it.
“Without coming across as immodest, my efforts to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the party have helped bring the PDP back to national prominence and have made it a popular choice for many Nigerians,” he stated.
Recent occurrences characterized by widening rifts, an ongoing leadership crisis, and intractable disagreements have diminished the party to a ghost of its former self and exposed it to public mockery.
“After extensive discussions with my friends, family, and political associates, I have decided to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in order to contribute to the group’s endeavor to save our country and protect our hard-won democracy.”
The 80-year-old Ogbeha served in the Senate from 1999 until 2007.
He was the administrator of Akwa Ibom and the former Bendel state under General Ibrahim Babangida’s military dictatorship. He is a retired brigadier general.
