Olufemi Hamzat, the deputy governor of Lagos State, stated that “public pundits are merely talking about an already won election” and that they “were not expressing the truth” on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.
Hamzat spoke in place of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday at the Lateef Jakande Annual Memorial Lecture hosted by the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
Hamzat discussed the results of the elections in 2023 and how the Independent National Electoral Commission used BVAS.
The deputy governor pointed out that ballots were used to cast votes rather than the BVAS machine, saying that the debate over using BVAS to transmit election results was unnecessary.
The inaugural installment of the yearly lecture to remember the memory of the late governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
“Lateef Jakande: The Man, His Journalism, His Politics” was the program’s subtitle.
