Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, lost chairmanship and councillorship elections in his polling unit on Saturday to the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
El-Rufai had previously voted in his Polling Unit 001 Ungwar Sarki, Kaduna North Local Government Area, where he stated that his goal was not to win all of the polls but to improve the voting process using the Electronic Voting Machine.
El-All Rufai’s Progressives Congress (APC) received 62 votes in the chairmanship election, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 86 votes out of 159 votes cast, according to Muhammad Sani, the unit’s Presiding Officer.
The APC received 53 votes in the councillorship election, while the PDP received 100 votes out of 162 total votes.
“We are not going to behave like other parties or other state governments of the ruling party,” says the governor. We will let the people of Kaduna State choose who they want as their governor.

“We don’t have to win everywhere because we have worked for the people of Kaduna State, and they have seen our footprint, the state government and local government everywhere, and we are confident that all reasonable people will vote for our party and our candidate because they know we are committed to the welfare of the people.”
“We don’t believe in cheating, in rigging elections, and we don’t believe that other people should cheat us either. That is why we pushed SIECOM to create a much better system, and I am very impressed with the results.
“Technology is critical to reducing election fraud; without credible elections, we will never have good leaders, accountable leaders, and that is why we are committed, even if it means losing some areas; this is democracy; it is a gradual process,” he explained.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the overall result of the Kaduna North Local Government was still pending.
