Ekiti APC members attacked, four injured, property destroyed

A bunch of hoodlums attacked some All Progressives Congress chieftains in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State, injuring four and destroying millions of naira worth of property.

The incident was linked to the state’s December local government elections.

One of the victims, Mr. Olaitan Olayinka, claimed that about 20 assailants headed by one Oluwafemi, popularly known as Owolesu, attacked them with cutlasses, firearms, and other hazardous weapons in front of his family residence while relaxing Monday evening.

On Thursday in Ado Ekiti, Olayinka, who had glued his forehead, recounted his trauma at the hands of the hoodlums, stating that a local political leader was behind the attack to silence other election contenders.

“I’m retired public servant,” he said. I also want to be Efon Local Government Chairman. The political leader’s thugs attacked us.

“They say they don’t want any other aspirant to run against a particular favoured aspirant, but I held my ground that I will contest and win.

“On July 31, 2023, during a masquerade event in Efon, the thugs wanted to forcibly remove one of my customised caps from a supporter. The hoodlums thrashed him and tore his clothes when he refused to provide it.

Olayinka added that despite the intervention of some elders, the hoodlums came to his family residence in the evening and attacked members and everyone in sight, injuring four people and smashing beer bottle cartons in his shop.

Olayinka, who said it took military intervention to restore peace and order, called on Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji to rescue his family and the party from additional attacks that could cause a political crisis.

Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer, claimed the police had apprehended and charged the accused attack group leader.
