Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, a candidate for governor of Ekiti State from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has pledged to unseat current Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the state’s upcoming 2026 governorship election.

In an Abuja statement, Fayose claimed that his determination to run for office sprang from his wish to steer Ekiti State in the direction of progress and prosperity.

“I am running to overthrow the Oyebanji-led government, and if I succeed, I will eventually run an inclusive government that would steer Ekiti in the right direction,” the message said in part.

“The recent meeting between President Bola Tinubu and Mr. Ayodele Fayose, a former state governor, in Lagos has led to the need for additional emphasis and clarification regarding my desire to run.”

The former governor, who also happens to be Otunba Fayose’s older brother, informed President Tinubu during the widely reported meeting that he would back the incumbent in returning the party members in Ekiti State who are viewed as anti-party.

“I read about the meeting in the newspapers like any other person, and I wish to state that the meeting has nothing to do with my aspiration,” Otunba Fayose remarked in response to the development.

Since the former governor is my older brother and is only expressing his democratic right to free will, the meeting will not have any bearing on my goals.

“His preferences and choice will not and cannot have a negative impact on my bid because we are two different entities with different objectives.”

However, Fayose urged his hordes of supporters in the state to continue being firm and determined in their pursuit of constructive change in the state.

He called the Oyebanji administration a complete failure and predicted that the PDP will regain control of the state in 2026 and start the process of reconstruction.

“My brother is on his own, and it is up to our great party’s leadership to determine whether he is loyal to our PDP or APC,” the candidate stated.

However, I am taking advantage of this platform to exhort our throngs of supporters to stay focused and unwavering in their resolve to bring about the necessary change in our state.
