Ehizibue, Eagles prospect, out for six months

Kingsley Ehizibue, a Super Eagles hopeful and defender for Udinese, will miss Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone because he will be out for six months following surgery to reconstruct the ligament in his right knee.

Ehizibue, whose parents are from Nigeria, was born in Germany, was raised there, and represented the Netherlands in grade level, but he is open about his desire to represent his native country.

“Weeks like this, when I see everyone has left for international duty, I think, ‘Oh man, I need to do something to change this!'” In a March interview with GOAL, he stated, “I don’t want to be left here training with just 10 other guys.

Although Gernot Rohr, the former head coach of the Eagles, called up Ehizibue in 2020 to be a part of the team preparing for the 2021 AFCON qualifying match against Sierra Leone, Ehizibue was unable to report to camp because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Udinese full-back has excelled for the Italian team this year, and he is expected to be selected for the nation’s upcoming AFCON qualifier against the Leone Stars.

Tutto Udinese’s confirmation that the surgery was a success and that the 27-year-old had begun his rehabilitation treatments at the Top Physio Balduina gym at Villa Stuart dealt the man a severe blow once more.

Since then, he has traveled back to Udine, where he will continue to recover at the Bruseschi Sports Center.

His complete rehabilitation is expected to take about six months, which disqualifies him from the upcoming AFCON qualifier.

Ehizibue will regrettably be unavailable for Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone on June 18 due to his injury and surgery.

The three-time Africa champions will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament if they win, which will take place in Ivory Coast the following year.
