EFCC’s retrial of Orji Kalu for suspected N7.1 billion fraud has been halted by the court

Senator Orji Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, has been prohibited from being retried by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Following an appeal by the former governor seeking an order of court preventing the EFCC from retrying him on a crime for which he had previously been tried and convicted, Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the order.
The judge stated, “An order is thus made barring the Federal Government, through the EFCC, from retrying the applicant (Kalu) on charge no. FHC/ABJ/CR/56/2007 since there was no order in the Supreme Court ruling for the retrial of Kalu.”
