Willie Obiano, the former governor of Anambra State, was freed on administrative bail on Wednesday evening by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Last Saturday, the EFCC refused to release Obiano on administrative bail, but on Monday, it overturned its judgment and granted him bail with strict terms.
Obiano was detained by the EFCC after failing to satisfy some of the requirements, while his friends and colleagues worked to gain his release.
Obiano eventually satisfied the requirements on Wednesday evening, and he was released to family members.
His international passport, however, was apparently taken to prevent him from fleeing the country.
He will also be required to attend to the anti-graft agency’s office on a regular basis for additional questioning.

On his way to the United States, Obiano was detained hours after handing over to his successor, Chukwuma Soludo, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
He was then moved to the commission’s offices, where he was interrogated for days on allegations of misuse of N5 billion in Sure-P funds, N37 billion in cash security votes, and contract inflation.
