The media team working for Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor, has been disbanded by the Edo State Government.
The government instructed the deputy governor to go forward and ask the Ministry of Communication and Orientation for media coverage of his office’s activities, according to a statement made on Monday by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare.
According to the statement, “Edo State Government has disbanded the media team attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor, with a directive to the Deputy Governor to moving forward request media coverage of activities of his office from the Ministry of Communication and Orientation.

“This directive came as a result of the ugli and unfortunate incident that occurred during the colloquium held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum celebration held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage, where some journalists attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated under false pretenses of being the deputy governor’s media crew.
“This act was against accredited protocol, which had been established for media coverage of the event,” it continued.
Nehikhare continued, “The stage-managed and orchestrated walkout and disruption is highly regrettable.
