ECOWAS and road infrastructure ministers from Benin, Cote d’ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo meet to expedite the 6-lane dual carriage Abidjan to Lagos corridor highway

December 13, 2023, in CotonouThe twentieth (20th) Project Ministerial Steering Committee Meeting will be held in Cotonou, Republic of Benin on December 15, 2023 by the ECOWAS Commission, the Implementing Agency for the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway Development Project. The purpose of this meeting is to evaluate the progress that has been made thus far, make important decisions, and expedite the implementation process.

 

The meeting will be facilitated by the Honorable Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure of the Republic of Benin, with Engineer David Nweze Umahi, the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing and Chairperson of the Ministerial Steering Committee, serving as the meeting’s chair.

The newly appointed Honorable Minister for Works and Housing in Nigeria, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, succeeded the outgoing Minister, Honourable Babatunde Raji Fashola. As the ministers in charge of their respective nations’ road infrastructures, the Coordinating Ministers of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Togo will also be present at the meeting.

 

The 13th and 14th of December 2023 have been set aside for an extensive technical meeting of the members of the Experts Committee of the Abidjan Lagos Corridor Highway Development Project. This committee is composed of engineers and experts from Ministries and Agencies in charge of roads and infrastructure in the five member countries, the ECOWAS Project Implementation Unit (PIU), funding partners including the European Union and the African Development Bank (AfDB), and other funding partners. The meeting is scheduled to take place prior to the steering committee meeting on December 15th, 2023.

The two-day expert meeting will assess the project’s progress since the 19th Experts and Steering Committee meeting, which took place in Accra, Ghana, in May 2023. It will also propose ways to expedite the procedures that will conclude the project study phase and move on to the Highway’s construction.
