The appeal contesting the outcome of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s victory in the state’s March 18 election has been pending since Saturday, according to the Ebonyi State Governorship Election appeal Tribunal in Abuja.
On March 20, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Nwifuru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had won the election, defeating Ifeanyi Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Prof. Benard Odoh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) by 199,131 votes.
In the voting process, Odii and Odoh received 80,191 and 52,189 votes, respectively.
Due to reported extensive anomalies and INEC’s alleged noncompliance with the electoral process, the PDP and APGA candidates are contesting the election’s results.
Additionally, they claimed that the governor was not an actual APC member at the time of the election.
After all parties adopted their written addresses, the panel reserved judgement on the petition.
