The management of the Ebira Education Trust Fund has assured those who donated money to pay for the WAEC fees of about 150 orphans and indigent students from Kogi Central that the funds would be handled with transparency and accountability.
Professor Muhammed S Audu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ebira Education Trust Fund, stated this on Tuesday at Government Girls Science Secondary School, Otutu, Okene, during the presentation of cheques for the payment of WAEC fees of deserving students in Kogi Central.
The Trust Fund stated that it only recently learned that over 1,700 students from the area were unable to register for the external examination due to a lack of funds, necessitating immediate action.

They expressed concern that only about 150 students would be served in this first phase, and they asked individuals and organizations to contribute to the trust fund so that more students could be served.
They also stated that efforts were made to ensure that the intervention benefited indigent students from the five local government areas in Kogi Central.
Part of the Chairman’s address, delivered by the BoT’s secretary, Alhaji Hussein Obadaki, reads:
“It is with great pleasure that I send this message to all of you on this very special occasion of presenting cheques to principals of schools in the Kogi Central Senatorial District for the payment of WAEC fees to deserving students in the district.”
“Unquestionably, we did not receive adequate notice, which would have allowed us to seek additional financial assistance to support our current intervention.”
“As more help becomes available, we won’t hesitate to contact principals to see if they can help a larger number of their students pay their WAEC fees.”
“I hereby implore the Principals to be extremely transparent and accountable in their application of the funds they are receiving today for the sole purpose for which they were intended.
“Members of the Ebira Education Trust Fund’s Board of Trustees, and/or their representatives or appointees, will visit beneficiary schools to ensure that payments have been made judiciously in accordance with the directives and instructions given to the Principals.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of the individuals and organizations who contributed to this intervention. We apologize for the short notice in requesting your assistance. Needless to say, we were taken aback a little.

“It is our sincere prayer that Almighty God will abundantly bless you/your organizations, as well as replenish your bank accounts.” May you all achieve your goals at the highest level possible. I hereby guarantee, with honesty and sincerity of purpose, that all donations will be wisely applied and accounted for, and that our efforts will be documented in the public domain, but only in the larger specific interest of each individual donor.
“I can’t close this speech without thanking the Secretary and other members of the Board of Trade who, despite the short notice, treated this intervention as their baby. We owe you a huge debt of gratitude. Almighty God, by His Grace, will provide for your needs and reward you all accordingly.
“Welcome to the Ebira Youth Congress!” We appreciate all of your efforts in this regard, as well as your mandate to broaden the knowledge frontiers of Kogi Central Youths. Please, let us be more proactive in the future to ensure that projects that require our intervention are brought to our attention in a timely manner.
“Finally, heartfelt congratulations to all of the intervention’s beneficiaries and their Principals.” Please don’t betray the trust that has been placed in you.
On behalf of the members, the secretary of ANCOPSS, Abiodun A. Bello, expressed gratitude to the Ebira Education Trust Fund and those who have donated money towards the payment of WAEC fees for indigent students from the area.
He promised the Board that his members would be accountable and transparent in their management of the fund, and that only those who deserved to benefit would be considered.
“We are truly grateful for this thoughtful gesture. To the principals, keep in mind that you will be held responsible for the money’s management. As a result, I urged you to be open about how you spend the money.
