Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director of the National Youth Service Corps, has advised corps members against spreading false information on social media and fanning societal animosity.
The warning was given by DG during the swearing-in ceremony of 1,608 Corps members deployed to Akwa Ibom State among the 2022 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 at the Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai LGA on Tuesday, who was represented by the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of NYSC, Chinyere Ekwe.
While cautioning them against drug misuse, cultism, and other social vices, the DG also reminded them of one of NYSC’s main goals: to promote national unity and integration, emphasizing that they should only promote values that will bring the country together.

During the orientation exercise, he advised the corps members to take advantage of the self-employment options provided by the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Program.
“Permit me to take this opportunity to warn you about cultism, drug abuse, and other societal vices.
“I further implore you to refrain from using social media to distribute fake news, incite hatred, or for other harmful goals, and instead to use it to promote unity and growth.”
“You are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of security awareness at all times and to report any suspicious characters or actions in your immediate vicinity to the proper authorities,” Ibrahim warned.
He asked the corps members to get themselves immunized in accordance with the Federal Government’s requirements.

The ceremony was begun by Ibrahim, who encouraged the corps members to maintain a high degree of discipline, explaining that the camp’s rigorous atmosphere was intended to instill discipline and build resilience.
