Traditional rulers in Delta State are attempting to persuade the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to reinstate sacked casual employees before they start new jobs.
The Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III and the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Abe I, made the decision during a weekend visit by the Olu to his palace in Effurun, Uvwie local government area of Delta State.
The Uvwie monarch urged the Olu of Warri to work with him and the Warri representative in the National Assembly, as well as the Okpe, Sapele, and Uvwie representatives, to ensure that the sacked workers are reinstated.
As monarchs, Abe said they would continue to listen to their subjects and urged them to respect and support their monarchs.
He praised the Olu of Warri for his visit, noting that it was only the second time he had visited the Uvwie Palace in the kingdom’s history.
He commanded the Olu of Warri to carry everyone along as the father of all his subjects, even those who did not support him prior to his enthronement.
The Uvwie monarch expressed his hope that the visit would strengthen the relationship between the two kingdoms, and urged the Iwere people to support the Olu of Warri in his efforts to take the region to greater heights.
