Delta LG honours DPO for combating crimes

The Divisional Police Officer of Ekan Divisional Police Station, CSP Aliyu Shaba, has been honoured by the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Ramson Onoyake, who described CSP Shaba, as “an exceptional police officer, whose zero tolerance for crimes played major role in sustainable peace recorded in the area.”

The council boss made the remarks on Wednesday, while presenting an award to CSP Shaba at the council secretariat in Effurun, during the commissioning of his legacy projects by the state governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Uvwie Local Government is renowned as the most volatile council area in Delta State.

Onoyake applauded the DPO “for his effective policing strategy that had yielded positive results in making the area safe and calm.”

Recounting how tensed and unsecured Ekpan community had been, mostly when it comes to community unrest and violent crimes, even in the day time, Onoyake noted that “based on concerted efforts of police operatives in the area, led by CSP Shaba, the residents are now confident of their safety.”

He declared, “This award today is in recognition of the remarkable impact of one of the finest police officers who had served relentlessly at the Ekpan Division in bringing sustainable peace to our area.

“CSP Shaba’s rare commitment to a crime-free society is one of the driving forces that propelled him to working tirelessly with his men and officers in making sure our community is not just safe, but also secured for both residents and strangers at any time of the day.

“I’ve had the opportunity of working with quite a number of DPOs in the last six years of my tenure as chairman and I can tell you that CSP Shaba has distinguished himself as the most outstanding and therefore the best police officer to have served in this division.

“It is therefore on behalf of the entire management and staff of Uvwie Local Government Area and the good people of this kingdom, that I present to you this award of recognition as the Best Divisional Police Officer, who have worked so hard in combating crimes and other social vices and had curbed rising crimes waves in the community.

“We are so excited that with your coming, residents of Uvwie council, both indigenes and non-indigenes, have enjoyed a remarkable improvement in the safety of their lives and property.

“We, therefore, wish to acknowledge your impact with this award as a mark of recognition for the great job you have done in our community and wish you the very best in future endeavors in your policing career.”

South-South According gathered that CSP Shaba had contributed immensely to the peace recorded so far in Ekpan community by liaising with the various clan heads to embark on arms and ammunition mop-up in the community through a disarmament programme he initiated.

The initiative, tagged ‘Surrender Your Arms and Get Pardoned,’ reportedly led to hundreds of youths in the area dropping their weapons.

Also, police operatives in the division were said to have decimated many criminal gangs and notorious armed robbery and kidnapping kingpins like the dreaded Momotimi Bobone, a.k.a. ‘Ogbanje,’ Ololo, Scorpion and many others in Warri, Effurun, Udu and environs, in the recent past.

Consequently, night life is said to be gradually returning to the once sleepy metropolitan city of Warri and its environs, as residents are now going about their businesses without fear of robbery attacks.
