The Senate has urged the federal government to issue an arrest warrant for all suspected terrorist leaders in the country.
This followed the adoption of a motion by Sen. Bala Ibn Na’Allah (APC-Kebbi) and co-sponsored by 12 other senators during plenary on Wednesday.
“Urgent need to overcome all types of kidnappings, banditry, and related security challenges in Wasagu-Danko, Sakaba, and Yauri Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kebbi,” according to the motion.

Na’Allah, who presented the motion, stated that it was no longer news that bandits were roaming the countryside in droves, terrorizing the people.
“According to reports, bandits have been laying siege to Yar-kuka, Morai, Dankade to Wadako, and most recently in Bena, where 20 people were kidnapped.”
He warned that unless immediate action was taken, peace-loving communities may be forced to resort to self-defense by acquiring weapons and ammunition.
Contributing Sen. Adamu Aliero (APC-Kebbi) said the federal government’s purchase of 12 Super Tucano jets was supposed to help flush out the bandits from their hideous hideouts.
“We recently purchased Tucano Aircraft, which can be used to transport bandits out of the area.
“It has the ability to track these bandits’ movements.” If they’re rustling cows, I’m curious as to how they get them to move without being noticed.

“I urge the state’s security forces to step up their efforts to combat banditry.”
Sen. Sani Musa (APC-Nigeria) also stated that bandits and other criminals were wreaking havoc in many states’ communities.
“Not only in Kebbi, but also in neighboring states like Niger, the security situation is deteriorating.
“Every day, human beings are lost, and we like to stand up and do a one-minute silence.”
“Apart from calling on security agencies to intensify efforts in the fight against insecurity, leaders should fear God,” he said.
In his remarks, President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan said, “let us never be discouraged because sometimes we feel why we are doing this when nothing is happening.
“What we can do is limited, but we must do what we are supposed to do well.”
“We can only supervise to apply pressure, but we can’t carry it out.” We can’t command anyone to go anywhere, but what we do here is very significant.
“We should continue to discuss it and take some steps forward.”
“We have approved significant resources funds recently in both the Supplementary Budget of 2021 and the Appropriation Act of 2022 for armed forces and other security agencies.

“Now is the time for all security and defense-related committees to have oversight over the funding releases to these agencies.”
