Ibori-Suenu Erhiatake, the daughter of Mr. James Ibori, the former governor of the state, was elected to represent the Ethiope East/Ethiope West Federal Constituency in Delta State. The election was upheld by a Lagos-based appeal court.
Ben Igbakpa of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Halims Ahoda of the All Progressives Congress, and Ogboru Etabunor of the All Progressives Grand Alliance were all defeated by the lawmaker, who was elected on the platform of the Political Democratic Party.
The PDP candidate’s election was upheld by Justice Festus Ogbuinaya, who also dismissed the appellants’ challenges.
Erhiatake referred to the Court of Appeal’s decision as a divine triumph in a press release she released on Tuesday, dedicating it to her fellow citizens.
She applauded the court of appeals’ ruling, declaring that democracy has arrived in Nigeria overall and not just in the Delta.
