During the Bayelsa State governorship election on Saturday, a few ad hoc staff at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were attacked by what appeared to be All Progressives Congress (APC) goons.
Election materials, such as the BVAS for Ward 1, Unit 23, situated in Onopa in the state’s Yenagoa Local Government Area, were also taken off by the criminals.
Armed thugs also stole the Corps member’s luggage and other personal items.
The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, agent confirmed the event and stated that when the armed thugs broke into the unit, the vote sorting and collation process was still in progress. He added that there had been no injuries reported in the incident.
Additionally, alleged APC thugs invaded polling places 14, 15, and 19 in the state’s Ogbia Local Government area at Ward 11 of Opume and Emakalakala, interfering with the electoral process.
However, a few outcomes were noted prior to the disturbance in the procedure.
Similarly, in Ward 3 of Olodiama village in Southern Ijaw Local Government area of the state, original result sheets from polling units 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 were taken by armed thugs.
