The Rivers State Police Command has said it is enforcing the 10 pm-4 am curfew of the Federal government and not the 8 pm-6 am curfew of the State government.
The Command made clarification following the conflicting orders of the Federal and the State governments in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Recall that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, declared a curfew on Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor starting from June 2.
The curfew, according to Wike, would run from 8 pm to 6 am.
But speaking to the media in Port Harcourt, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni said officers were not implementing the curfew imposed by the Rivers Government.
DSP Omoni said the Command had directed its men to enforce the compliance of the curfew declared by the Federal Government, which begins at 10 pm to 4 am daily.
He argued that, “Since both curfew times are meant to meet the same target, that of the Federal Government supersedes, in keeping with the constitutional provisions of the country.”
Omoni advised members of the public who suffer harassment in the hands of police officers as a result of the conflicting time to call the Police Emergency phone lines or his mobile line
