Federal legislator Awaji-Inombek Abiante’s suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been overturned by the Rivers State High Court.
In the House of Representatives, Abiante is the representative for the federal constituency of Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro.
According to reports, a parallel PDP Ward Caretaker Executive that was devoted to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike imposed the ban in May. It should be mentioned that Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara have apparently been at odds about who controls the state’s political institutions.
The lawmaker was charged with engaging in anti-party activities, supporting ward-level factions, and being a member of an organization masquerading as the party. However, the fragmented PDP Caretaker Committee did not have the constitutional authority to suspend Abiante, according to Justice G.O. Ollor’s ruling in his Monday, December 2 ruling.

Abiante was not given a fair hearing, according to Justice Ollor, who emphasized that the factional leaders’ actions were unlawful. He ruled the suspension of the federal legislator to be illegal and dismissed it.
Abiante responded to the ruling by characterizing the people who suspended him as not being true PDP members. He said that they were employed to obstruct Rivers State’s development under Governor Fubara’s direction and that their names are not on the party’s ward registry.
He went on to say, “They will keep failing.”
