On Friday, a Federal High Court located in Abuja ruled that the Federal Government must look into and bring charges against those who have killed journalists in Nigeria between 1986 and 2023.
Dele Giwa, the creator of Newswatch Magazine, was among those slain during this time.
A statement that the death of Nigerian journalists is an infringement on their fundamental right to life is among the reliefs sought by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda in their lawsuit against the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The organization additionally aimed to uphold the fundamental rights of media professionals to safety, as protected by the African Charter on Human Rights and the 1999 Constitution.
Additionally, the MRA said that the AGF was doing little to stop security agents from harassing some journalists.
