NO AMOUNT OF FALSE ALARMS WOULD SAVE ORTOM

The Federal Government has asked to take over the treatment of Benue State’s first and only coronavirus patient, Susan Okpe.

The FG’s request was contained in a letter by the Ministry of Health and addressed to the Chief Medical Director, Benue State University Teaching Hospital on Thursday.

Governor Samuel Ortom, during a press briefing at Government House, Makurdi, last week, had declared Mrs Okpe, a Nigerian based in Britain, as the state’s index case.

Ortom’s pronouncement courted controversy, especially after Mrs Okpe alleged fowl play.

She reportedly demanded to be transferred to Abuja for another round of test after losing confidence in Benue State due to the manner she was treated.

It appears as though that Mrs Okpe’s request has been granted after the FG took interest in her case.

In the letter signed by A.M Abdullahi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, the FG said “this has become necessary so as to ensure proper management and in order to put to rest all controversies and panic surrounding her case”.

It, however, assured that the deputy governor and MD FMC Makurdi would accompany Mrs Okpe to Abuja for proper monitoring.
