Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigeress’s captain, Evelyn Akhator has said that the team are not in a good shape to participate in the 2020 Olympics.

Akhator, therefore, submitted that the forced coronavirus postponement of the event was a blessing in disguise.

The D’Tigeress qualified for the first since 2004 for the Olympics and Nigerian basketball enthusiasts were hoping that in Tokyo 2020, the team will improve upon their 11th placing at the Athens Games, but according to Akhator, the team is not ready to compete if the Games were to start on July 24, 2020.

“The thing was in as much as we are very excited to participate in the Olympic games, let’s say the COVID-19 plague ends this month we are still not ready, we are not ready to play because we are not in basketball shape,” she told   www.brila.net.

“We’ve not been playing and practicing as everyone will have to start from square one afresh. We can’t just come back and start practicing immediately we have to start from square one and start practicing.”
