Bye-election: LP releases timetable, pegs Senate form at N3.5m

Following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s announcement, the Labour Party leadership has made public their agenda and calendar of events for the bye-elections scheduled for February 3, 2024.

The viral schedule that some expelled members allegedly posted should be disregarded, the party’s National Working Committee further advised the public.

The Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress authorised theirs in accordance with the electoral process, and this event occurred just 24 hours later.

A schedule for holding bye-elections in the event of resignations or deaths of members of the National and State Houses of Assembly was reportedly approved by INEC.

The Labour Party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk, revealed in a document addressed to the party’s headquarters in Abuja that the nomination forms for the Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly would cost N3.5 million, N2 million, and N500,000, respectively.

Additionally, according to Farouk, the sale of the nomination, expression of interest, and delegate forms will start on December 28, 2023, and the deadline for submitting completed forms is January 4, 2024.

“January 7, 2024, is the date of the primary elections. The statement said, “It waives the expenses for the Expression of Interest Forms only for female candidates and individuals living with disabilities.

“The forms for the bye-election can be obtained at the office of the National Organising Secretary, National Headquarters in Utako, Abuja,” the statement continued. “Aspirants and members of the public will have access to the proper accounts belonging to the party and other vital information regarding the coming elections.”
