Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved raising the retirement age for teachers from 60 to 65 years and the length of service year from 35 to 40 years, whichever comes first.
This was stated in a press statement signed by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, information officer, Yobe State’s Office of the Chief Civil Service.

“It should be noted, however, that the reversed retirement age/years of service is not automatic,” he says, “as officers will be required to demonstrate fitness following a medical examination, and those found unfit will be advised to retire accordingly.”
“As stated in a letter signed by the Head of Service Muhammad B. Nura, this gesture is limited to Education Officers/Teaching Staff only, and it is effective immediately.”
