Buhari sends bill to the House of Representatives to regulate small, light weapons

President Muhammadu Buhari presented a bill to the House of Representatives in Abuja on Wednesday to regulate small and light weapons.

The bill will be considered by the House of Representatives, according to Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, who read the letter from Buhari dated August 26.

He stated that once the bill is implemented, it will aid in the fight against the proliferation of small and light weapons.

According to Gbajabiamila, the President also sent a letter on August 27 in support of a bill repealing the Explosives Act of 1994.

In addition, on August 24, the President sent a letter to Congress requesting concurrence approval for external borrowing from 2018 to 2021 in order for the federal government to finish its ongoing projects across the country.

Meanwhile, Rep Ahmed Mohammed, who represents the Lere Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, was sworn in as a new member of the House of Representatives.

Rep Lere Suleiman, a former member of the House of Representatives, died in March in Kaduna State, according to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN).

After the House declared the seat vacant and notified the commission to hold an election before it went on recess, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held a by-election in the constituency.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Mohammed, on the other hand, won the by-election.
