President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated General Ibrahim Babangida, the former military president of Nigeria, on his 80th birthday.

In a statement released Monday by his spokeswoman, Garba Shehu, the president wished former President Babangida a “long and healthy life” as he celebrated his birthday.

President Buhari stated that as former military commanders during the war, both retiring as Generals, he and Babangida have common interests, as well as high aspirations and expectations for a strong and unified Nigeria.

He expressed the hope that privileged Nigerians like President Babangida and others like him will renew their commitment to helping the country achieve more glory, growth, and prosperity.
