President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that his administration’s commitment to improve road transportation infrastructure, ease of doing business, generate jobs, and lift people out of poverty is paying off.
On Thursday, President Buhari spoke during the official commissioning of the 40.27-kilometer Nnenwe-Odume and Ishiagu mile 2 highways in Enugu and Ebonyi states, respectively.

President Buhari, who was represented by Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, said that as his government nears its end, he is entering a season of project completion and delivery.
“As you can see, we are handing over the 40.27km Nnenwe–Oduma–Uburu Road Section I (26.27km) and Section II: Spur to Ishiagu-Mile 2 Road today,” Buhari stated (14km).
“This road connects the states of Enugu and Ebonyi and is an important part of our national road network.” This road was built to the highest design and craftsmanship standards, and if properly maintained and not misused, it should survive for the intended service life.”
Road abuse, according to Buhari, can take many forms, including overloading vehicles and trucks, which accelerates pavement damage, spilling petroleum products, which dissolves the components and allows water to penetrate, and converting road shoulders to permanent parking spaces, which causes road failure.

He cautioned the communities through which these roads ran not to allow them to decay.
“We must all do our utmost to prevent these behaviors, report them when they occur, and act lawfully to put an end to them,” he said.
“The road is also a story of our people’s capacity. The thousands of patriotic Nigerians who were directly employed to build this road, as well as the hundreds of vendors who were indirectly employed to provide the machines used in the construction.
“This route also serves as a declaration of economic efficiency and convenience of conducting business.” Of all, this is one of our many paths to riches, because shorter travel times equal lower travel costs, and time is money.”
Earlier, Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Minister of Works and Housing, stated that the Federal Government’s service-driven progressive train, which began in the North West and ended in the North Central, had arrived in the South East.

“It brings me great pleasure, therefore, to offer the good news of our administration to the people and governments of Enugu and Ebonyi States, who will be impacted by the Nnewe-Uduma Road Sections I and II that our President will hand over today,” Fashola said.
“After the recent handing over of the Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega-Kontagora-Makera Road and the Vandeikya-Obudu Cattle Ranch Road, I am happy to reiterate that this is the third of many more project completions and hand-overs our country will see in the coming weeks and months as we enter what I call a season of completion and impact.”
