Buhari approved 878 contracts in two years: SGF

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, has described President Muhammad Buhari’s last two years in office as the most productive and remarkable of the current administration.

Mr Mustapha stated this during the opening ceremony of the Mid-Term Ministerial Performance Review Retreat in Abuja on Monday.

“In terms of the Federal Executive Council’s, FEC’s, performance, let me acknowledge that the last two years have been extremely productive.”

“During Mr. President’s second term, from May 29, 2019 to August 31, 2019, the Federal Executive Council held 52 meetings and granted 579 approvals, including 381 contracts, 110 policies, and 88 briefs/notes.”

“From the foregoing, the 878 Contracts approved by FEC have mostly focused on infrastructure provision, with the goal of enabling faster economic growth and development,” SGF explained.

According to the SGF, the current administration has remained focused on its cardinal responsibility of responsively addressing the myriad of needs and challenges of its citizens through the 319 approved policies implemented during the period.

“I am pleased to report that, with the President’s introduction of Ministerial Mandates, there is greater clarity of expectations of MDAs on deliverables of government priorities to achieve demonstrable results.”
“Today, there are embedded systems for performance management, as well as improved accountability and transparency in service delivery to citizens.” The primary goal of this Mid-Term Ministerial Retreat is to assess progress toward achieving the nine priority areas.

According to him, the initiative aims to harness collective contributions in order to generate practical solutions that will ensure the level of impact that government functionaries can be proud of by the end of their tenure.

Mustapha went on to say that the exercise was also meant to foster deeper collaboration and cohesion among cabinet members in order to provide more efficient and effective service delivery.

According to him, the retreat provides an opportunity for government functionaries to collectively assess performance against Ministerial Mandates.

He added that the retreat was also intended to track their progress in delivering on the development goals outlined in the nine priority areas adopted at the 2019 Presidential Retreat.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the nine priority areas are: building a thriving and sustainable economy; improving social inclusion and reducing poverty; increasing agricultural output for food security and export; achieving energy sufficiency in power and petroleum products; and expanding transportation and other infrastructural development.

Others include expanding business growth, entrepreneurship, and industrialisation; increasing access to quality education, affordable healthcare, and Nigerian productivity; developing a system to combat corruption, improve governance, and foster social cohesion; and improving security for all.
