Early this morning, a number of young people are said to have stormed a police post in the Olayiwola Close neighbourhood of the Oregun neighbourhood of Ikeja, which is located in the state of Lagos.

It was reported that the attackers went on to light the police post on fire, which resulted in injuries being sustained by a police officer who was on duty at the time.

At this time, there is no clear indication as to why the attack was carried out.

However, reports suggest that the injured officer, who sustained a head injury, was promptly rushed to an emergency centre at the toll gate along the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway for immediate medical attention. This was done as soon as possible after the incident occurred.

As quickly as possible, officials from the Lagos State Fire Service were contacted and mobilised to the scene of the incident. Efforts were made to bring the situation under control. The fire was put out at some point, but the building housing the police station sustained some damage in the process.

Thankfully, there were no reports of any weapons being stolen during the incident.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police, has stated that an investigation has been opened into the attack. He also confirmed that the attack took place.

He went on to say that “No suspect has been arrested” at this point in time.

During an attempted takeover of the Alausa Police Station in Ikeja on Sunday, two people who are believed to be members of the Yoruba Nation were detained by police. This incident is connected to the previous one.

The protesters, who numbered approximately 15, gained access to the building and immediately began recording themselves while chanting various pro-Yoruba Nation and anti-Nigerian police slogans, such as “No more Nigeria police again” and “Yoruba Nation has taken over in Yoruba land.”

As the situation became more volatile, the police officers who were stationed at the facility were subjected to assault. As a direct response, additional police reinforcements arrived at the scene in a short amount of time and were successful in apprehending two of the agitators, while others managed to flee.

It was discovered that the individuals who were arrested were in possession of insignia, cutlasses, and charms that were associated with their group.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin emphasised that the investigations into both incidents would continue, with the goal of bringing those responsible to justice.
