The Benin Republic Government has released Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Ighoho.
According to records obtained the 49-year-old agitator has spent more than 231 days in a Benin Republic prison since his arrest on July 19, 2021.
Many supporters have bemoaned Igboho’s continued detention ‘without trial.’
The legal battle over whether or not to extradite Igboho to Nigeria has taken a number of dramatic turns.

Igboho’s release was confirmed by the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, in a terse statement released on Monday.
Maxwell Adeleye, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide’s Communications Secretary, explained that Igboho was given to Professor Banji Akintoye and Professor Wale Adeniran, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide’s French Language Expert/Deputy Alana.
The release of Ighoho was described by Akintoye as a “Triumph of Truth over Darkness in Yoruba Land.”
