Resigning from the Labour Party, LP is Doyin Okupe, the former director general of the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization.
The ideological divides that surfaced following the 2023 elections served as the foundation for Okupe’s resignation.
It was difficult for him to be a member, he claimed, because his lifetime commitment to liberal democratic and right-wing principles conflicted with the left-of-center philosophy of the LP.
“With effect from today, I submit herewith my letter of resignation from the Labour Party,” Okupe wrote in a letter made available to press on Monday. You may remember that I, along with a few others, along with our flagbearer, Mr. Peter Obi, abruptly left the PDP in order to search for a Special Purpose Vehicle to run in the 2023 presidential election.
The Labour Party, yourself, and other executives generously gave us this incredible platform without any hassle at all, and we are really appreciative of that.
“On the Labour Party platform, we did run for office but were unsuccessful. I find it very difficult to stay in the Labour Party, which has its ideological roots to the left of the center, because of this.
I’ve always identified as a liberal democrat and a rightist. Therefore, because of this ideological conflict, I’m looking for a way out so that I can carry on with my political actions in a liberalism, sincerity, and freedom.
I want to express my gratitude to you and the other party leaders for your kindness and consideration for me in my capacity as the director general of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization.
“May your future initiatives bring prosperity to you and the party. The Labour Party is here to stay. May the Federal Republic of Nigeria live forever. Your comrade, friend, and brother, The former director general of the Obi-Datti Campaign Organization is Omooba, Dr. Doyin Okupe.
