MTN has been given permission by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to cut Glo off from its network due to an interconnect debt.
Globacom subscribers and the general public were informed by NCC on Monday in a document titled “Pre-Disconnection Notice” that permission has been given for Globacom to partially disconnect from MTN Nigeria as a result of unpaid interconnect fees.
The document, which was signed by NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, stated that Globacom was informed of MTN’s application and given the chance to respond and make its case.
After reviewing the application and the circumstances surrounding the debt, the Commission declared that Globacom lacked substantial and legitimate grounds for failing to pay the interconnect fees.
Accordingly, all subscribers are kindly asked to take notice that, in compliance with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003 and Paragraph 9 of the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012, the Commission has approved Globacom’s partial disconnection to MTN.
Globacom subscribers will no longer be able to make calls to MTN after ten days on January 8, 2024, but they will still be able to receive calls.
However, it said, “The Partial Disconnection will allow in-bound calls to Globacom network.”
According to NCC, this disconnect will remain in place unless they decide differently.
According to checks, Globacom has 27.8% penetration and 61 million subscribers.
