The Kogi State Working Committee, SWC, of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has suspended Honourable Leke Abejide, a member representing Yagba Federal Constituency and previous Gubernatorial candidate of the Party, as well as his Deputy, Dr. Idris Omede, and three other party members in Kogi.
In a news conference conducted on Monday in Lokoja, the party’s Secretary, John Adaji Udale, stated that the SWC members made the decision after extensive deliberation over the repeated and purposeful acts and activities of some members and party officials who disagree with the party.
The Secretary stated that after reviewing their activities, particularly in recent times, particularly as displayed in Harris Hotel Abuja, where some members flagrantly usurped the power of the party’s leadership and engaged in anti-party activities, SWC was compelled to take necessary action against the members listed below in order to uphold the integrity of the party’s Constitution.
Dr. Idris Omede, a previous Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon Johnson Tayo, Lukman Usman Adedayo, and Olabode Kayode have all been suspended alongside Hon. Leke Abejide.
Adaji stated that in light of their disloyalty to the party, anti-party activities, and acts of insubordination committed in violation of the provisions of the Constitution, the party hereby suspends them in accordance with Article 6 Sections 1, 2, and 4, Article 22 Sections 1, 2, 6, 8, 9 and 10, and Article 32, the oath of office schedule of the great party, ADC, as applicable.
“The above-mentioned individuals are suspended effective today, August 4, 2025, as unanimously agreed and endorsed by the State Working Committee (SEC) which met today, Monday, August 4, 2025, in Lokoja, Kogi State.”

“Having reviewed their activities by the party’s leadership and their failure to honour the invitation extended to them in accordance with the stipulated law of our party since 2023, after the last governorship election, and their perpetual breach of the party Constitution, most especially Hon Leke Joseph Abejide and his running mate Hon Dr Idris Omede, as well as other state party officials mentioned above.
“This suspension will take effect immediately.
However, he stated that the suspended members are to appear before the national working committee for a fair hearing, as follows:

Venue: ADC Global Campus National Secretariat, 4 Oyo Street, Area 2, FCT, Abuja.
Meanwhile, the party’s State Working Committee overwhelmingly voted to support the leadership of Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, State Chairman, and John Adaji Udale, Secretary.
Remember that the SDP has been fraught with controversy since it was adopted by the coalition group.
