Suspected armed members of dreaded Boko Haram sect which invaded Geidam Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe state on Friday have killed eight people, with several others sustained gunshot injuries.
This is even as the insurgents are still holding ground and disguised as residents hoisting their flags while dropping leaflets for residents.
The gunmen also razed down several residential houses, public structures and shops.
The insurgents invaded the town with several gun trucks at about 5pm.
Geidam is the home town of the immediate past Governor, now Senator Ibrahim Gaidam.
The town is about 200km from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital and one of the border towns between Nigeria and Niger Republic. It also shares a boundary with Borno State from the north.
The town has been attacked by Boko Haram several times leading to loss of lives and property.
Confirming the killings and destruction on Saturday, Executive Chairman of Geidam, Hon Ali Kolo told our Correspondent that the armed insurgents killed eight Persons with destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
“Based on the information at my disposal, Boko Haram have so far killed eight Persons, with several others sustained various degree of injuries.
“The insurgents have also razed down many residential and public structures, even as thousands of my people have fled into the Bush for safety.
“I had tried and make contact with the military Commander in Gaidam, but there is no concrete evidence as to whether the attack have been repelled as insinuated.
“Right now I am in Damaturu for an official engagement, and had planned to return back today (Saturday) but to no avail, as the town is under Boko Haram control”. Kolo stated.
