During the early hours of Friday, January 5, 2024, popular Church of Christ in Nations pastor Luka Levong was killed in Geidam, Yobe State, by suspected members of the terrorist organization Boko Haram, apparently carrying out its first significant attack of the year.
The terrorists attacked the region at around two in the morning on Friday, according to locals who spoke with Channels TV on Friday. Maina Abdullahi, the treasurer of the church, was also reported to have died as a result of the assault.
Residents report that during their invasion, the intruders set fire to multiple homes as well as a church. The Specialist Hospital in Geidam has received the bodies, nevertheless.
In communication with our reporter, Dungus Abdulkarim, the public relations officer for Yobe State Police, said he was lacking certain details regarding the incident.
“The Nigerian military should be contacted,” he declared, referring to Geidam as a frontline location in the fight against insurgency.
It was not possible to get the Nigerian Army Spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, to respond.
Remember that approximately 150,000 people have been displaced from Geidam, which is a hotspot in the war against insurgency. Furthermore, since its founding, the extremist group Boko Haram, which is located in northeastern Nigeria, is thought to have killed 50,000 people and uprooted over 2.5 million more.
