The former Murtala Muhammed International Airport terminal in Lagos, which is presently undergoing multibillion-naira renovations, has apparently been completely destroyed by a fire breakout.
Details on the origin and scope of the fire were still unclear at the time this report was filed.
The affected terminal is a component of the ongoing airport infrastructure modernization projects.
Officials have not yet released a formal statement regarding the incident, however emergency crews were believed to have arrived at the area.
The development occurs almost two years after the same airport’s international wing experienced a fire.
According to information released by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on September 6, 2023, a smoke issue occurred at Terminal 1 of the airport due to a suspected electrical spark in the baggage hall ceiling.
A burning lithium-ion battery installation in the basement was identified by the authorities as the cause of the smoke.
Authorities will continue to evaluate the situation at the old terminal and provide more updates.
Residents of the Woro hamlet in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area have accused Nigerian Army personnel who were sent in following a deadly terrorist attack of not pursuing suspected assailants into neighboring woodlands.
Residents claimed that instead, soldiers set up checkpoints in the neighborhood, harassing and extorting drivers.
The charges come weeks after alleged Boko Haram militants carried out a concerted attack that killed at least 162 civilians and terrified the surrounding villages.
Instead of advancing into the woodlands where the assailants were said to be hiding, soldiers stayed in the town, a Woro local informed SaharaReporters.
