A Lagos bishop, Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, was found guilty of raping his assistant, a 23-year-old (name withheld), and was given a life sentence by an Ikeja Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court.
Additionally, Daniels, the Bishop of I Reign Christian Ministry in Lagos, was given a three-year prison sentence by Judge Rahman Oshodi for the fourth and final count of the case, which involved sexual assault against a 19-year-old church member.
The judge ruled that the cleric will live out the remainder of his days at the detention center in Kirikiri, Lagos.
The prosecution proved the elements of the two offenses, according to Justice Oshodi.
He says Daniels is dishonest and doesn’t care about the truth.
On count two of the indictment, which involves the rape of another church member (name withheld), the judge, however, dismissed the case and found him not guilty.
According to Oshodi, the church member’s consent was necessary.
Daniels was found not guilty of the fourth count of the accusation, which involved an alleged attempt to rape a church member, by the judge.
Daniels was charged with four revised counts of attempted rape, rape, and sexual assault, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Rape is prohibited by Lagos State’s 2015 Criminal Laws, Section 260 (2).
