A Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, has awarded Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lead lawyer for Nnamdi Kanu, the acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, a sum of N52 million.

Following the invasion of the lawyer’s home by Federal Government security operatives, the court, led by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, issued the ruling.

This decision came two years after security agents broke into Ejiofor’s home during his brother’s funeral in Oraifite.

According to the judge, the security operatives violated the lawyer’s fundamental rights to such an extent that the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, and other security agencies were fined N50 million.

The money is meant to compensate Ejiofor for the serious violation of his rights.

For the action against the Police and the Army, the court also awarded N2 million in costs.

‘Justice delayed is not always justice denied,’ he said in a statement released to reporters on Friday. On December 2, 2019, while burying his late elder brother, Rev Chukwukpelum Ejiofor, Ejiofor said his house was attacked by security agents.

During the invasion, he said, security operatives killed four people in his compound and set fire to all of his ancestral home’s houses.

“Justice Dimgba of Court No. 2 of the Federal High Court of Awka Judicial Division awarded me N50 million in damages against the police and army, as well as N2 million in costs for the ongoing action against the police and army, totaling N52 million.” “I filed a lawsuit to enforce my fundamental rights, which were blatantly violated by the said security agents,” the lawyer explained.

“On Thursday, December 2, 2021, the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State, issued a well-considered judgment in my favor.

“The judgment may have been delayed, but the fact that the court found that my rights had been grossly infringed will go a long way toward alleviating the pain and trauma I’ve been experiencing for the past two years as a result of that terrible and heart-wrenching experience.”

“I give all glory to Chukwuokike Abiama, the Almighty.” May the spirits of those who were killed in that bloody invasion haunt those who killed them until the end of time. Isee!!!”
