The Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. George Alli has called for peace amongst warring communities around Otukpo’Icho and Aliade.
The Chairman who was accompanied by the Area Commander, Otukpo Police Division as well as the DPO, Aliade Police Division, made the call when he visited the the scene of the Owu/Otukpo’Icho crises, to see the level of damages done and to interface with the warring communities, with a view to bringing the crises to a permanent end.
The Chairman wondered why communities that have cohabited peacefully for years will resort to violent clashes amongst themselves.
Alli said “I came here today to see things for myself. My sympathies goes to all the families that are directly affected by this unfortunate crises. What happened here is a bad omen for all of us. This is a big mistake. It should never happen. I call on all parties to please sheath their sword in the interest of peace.”
He said further, “While we are yet to fully recover from the pains inflicted on our brothers in the state external aggressors our people are taking up arms against each other. We can only face our enemies when we stand together as one united Benue people”, he said.
The Chairman said he will lias with his Gwer West Counterpart and other relevant agencies to see that the ugly incident does not repeat itself again. He also said he has directed security agencies to be on alert to forestall any further aggression within the area.
