Igboho's lawyer claims that he is chained like an animal in Cotonou and refutes rumours of his release.

On Monday night, the government of Benin announced that it would charge detained Yoruba nationalist Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho.

Igboho and Ropo Adeyemo were arrested last Monday in Cotonou while trying to fly to Germany.

The Nigerian government had been searching for Igboho for weeks, defending his people from killer herders and bandits.

During a midnight raid on Igboho’s residence in Oyo State, the DSS arrested some of his allies, while others who resisted were killed.

Igboho had been on the run since the incident on July 2.

Igboho was twice brought before the Court of Appeal in Cotonou, where he was accused of stock piling arms, inciting violence, and promoting disunity in Nigeria, among other things.

In the end, the judges ordered his remand in prison pending the outcome of the investigation into his entry into Benin Republic.

According to Sunday Igboho’s lawyer, Ibrahim Salami, the authorities in Cotonou, Benin Republic, were concerned about his entry and those who helped him.

Yesterday, Sunday Igboho was sent to the Benin Prison. While the prosecutor initially claimed to be representing the Nigerian government, we discovered yesterday that the Nigerian government has not filed any charges against Igboho.

“His case is with the Benin Republic Government”, the lawyer said on a BBC Yoruba programme.

The lawyer explained that the government of Benin claimed Igboho illegally entered their country to commit heinous crimes against it.

Igboho was also asked to thank those who helped him get to the airport.

According to him, Igboho said he had committed no crime and was only fleeing for his life in Nigeria.

A judge ruled that Igboho should be imprisoned until all those involved in his activities in Benin Republic are apprehended.
