The director of the Federal University Gusau’s Center for Research in Zamfara State, Bello Janbako, has once more been abducted by bandits.

Janbako was abducted on Wednesday from his home in Damba Gusau, the state capital. He is also a senior lecturer at the university’s Department of Islamic Studies.

The criminals stole Janbako from his home on Wednesday at two in the morning, according to Nasamu Garba, a local resident.

Garba claimed that in an effort to stop the kidnapping, security guards engaged the criminals in a firearms battle.

The robbers scared the locals by firing multiple gunshots when they got to Bello Janbako’s house, he claimed.

When security guards came on a rescue operation, they faced the individuals who had broken into the residence and taken him hostage.

Between the bandits and the security officers, there was a violent altercation.

Sadly, Bello Janbako and the outlaws fled back into the jungle after overwhelming the security guards with their sheer numbers.

The state capital, Gusau Town, has lost its sense of safety, he continued, adding, “It is quite awful.

“Despite the fact that this area is near the Government House Gusau, the bandits have been attacking us and kidnapping a lot of people from here.”

One may argue that bandits now rule the entire state if the residents of the Damba area lack safety.

There were rumors that Malam Sabiu, a local resident and Director of Finance in the state Ministry of Finance, had been kidnapped two days prior.

An other finance director, Surajo Hassan, also lived in the region; however, last year, his wife and two children were kidnapped.

Because robbers are persistent in the area and frequently kidnap people for ransom, locals are currently escaping to safer places.

The state commissioner for security, Captain Bala Mairiga (retd.), did not answer his calls, and ASP Yazid Abubakar, the state police command’s spokeswoman, could not be reached for comment.
