The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria branch, has petitioned the university’s Senate to revoke Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai of Kaduna State’s degree certificate.

ASUU claimed that many of Governor El-actions Rufai’s were in violation of the character and learning requirements for an Ahmadu Bello University degree.

Haruna Jibril, the Chairperson of ASUU, ABU Zaria branch, addressed newsmen in Kaduna at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Mando, Kaduna, and lamented that Governor Nasiru El-desperate Rufai’s attempt to take over the College’s land was an affront and insult to Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna’s indelible legacy to public education.

“Unfortunately, we are here once again to inform you of the Kaduna State Government’s encroachment into Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) lands, covering 196.258 hectares, located at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science (Mando), by the Kaduna State Government under the leadership of El-Rufai,” he said.

When one considers what the Governor did to residents of Kaduna State who built houses around Al-Hudahuda College and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, on the grounds that the lands belonged to the colleges, he said it was despicable.

He went on to say that the action implies a clear double standard and a mind set on destroying without justification.

He recalled that on January 13, 2022, their Union issued a press release warning the Governor of Kaduna State to stop what they described as “this callousness and unlawful takeover” of ABU’s Zaria property.

Rather than heeding the warning, he said, “he (Governor El-Rufai) went ahead and destroyed the College wall and several trees.” Despite a Subsisting Interim Court Order restraining the Governor and the State Attorney General, their servants, agents, and privies from further entering and trespassing on the said land, which was duly served on them, the trees were destroyed using bulldozers of the Kaduna State Urban Development Authority (KASUPDA) under the watchful eye of over one hundred well-armed security personnel, using bulldozers of the Kaduna State Urban Development Authority (

by the Supreme Court.”

He went on to say that Justice K. Dabo of the Federal High Court in Zaria granted the court order on January 18, 2022.

prosecute him and his ruthless agents for contempt of court.

“The action of the Kaduna State Government, led by Governor El-Rufai, is at best sadistic and in clear conflict with Section 49 (1) and (2) of the Land Use ACT, Cap L5 LFN, 2004, which exempts Federal Government lands from management and control by State Governors,” he claimed.

ASUU urged the general public to examine the provisions of the ACT in order to comprehend the Governor’s level of lawlessness.
