Late on Sunday night, Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, is said to have averted assassination.
Hon. Ehie is devoted to Siminalaye Fubara, the state governor.
According to a statement signed by Ken Uchendu, Ehie’s legislative assistant, the accused assailants comprised some police officers and armed thugs under the command of a top police official in the State.
According to the statement, at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023, a group of armed thugs and rogue police officers attacked the private residence of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Edison Ogerenye Ehie, DSSRS, fully armed with the intention of killing Mr. Speaker and his family. The group was led by one SP. Irikefe London Owen, a superintendent of police attached to the CTU B 3 RSV and CSP Salihu Masalachi.

But the official security details attached to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Edison Ogerenye Ehie, DSSRS, violently repelled the thugs and renegade police officers, led by the two police officers mentioned above, in a gun battle in Rivers State.
The CCTV footage from the residence, which will be provided to all media outlets for their records, including CNN, Aljazeera, and other national and worldwide media outlets, must be noted as it fully and accurately captured the armed rogues and officers.
Similarly, the Speaker will give a speech at a global press conference on Monday, November 20, 2023.
“Let it be documented that Rivers people, men, women, and even the elderly, will occupy the streets in large numbers while completely nude as a protest against the Nigerian Police and those who are funding violence in Rivers State. No matter how powerful they are, the people of Rivers will not submit to them.”
“Lastly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should hold the aforementioned Officers, the Rivers State Police Command, and their sponsors in Rivers State accountable should there be a breakdown of law and order in Rivers State.”
