According to indications, the Anambra State House of Assembly will lift the suspension imposed on Bernard Udemezue, the representative for the Ayamelum State Constituency.
In August 2025, Udemezue was suspended due to allegations that he posted on social media that disclosed specific details about the House’s operations, such as members’ allowances and emoluments.
The politician defended his actions by stating that they were motivated by his pledge to his supporters that, should he be elected, he would maintain an open door policy and provide any required details of his stewardship, including his salary.
After his initial six-month suspension ended, he attempted to resume, but he was thrown out for an additional three months for failing to follow the protocol, which calls for an apology to the House.
The House Committee on Rules, Ethics, and Privileges was instructed by Speaker of the Assembly Somtochukwu Udeze on Wednesday to examine the suspension.
In a plenary speech, Udeze charged the committee, led by Majority Leader Ikenna Ofodeme, with immediately reexamining the issue in accordance with the House decision and reporting back to the Assembly on the next date of adjournment.
According to the Speaker, the committee will evaluate the affected member’s compliance with the suspension imposed on him before relieving it.
He stated that after reviewing these, the committee will submit a report to the House for discussion and recommendations on the next adjourned day.
The anticipated date of Udemezue’s suspension is February 26, 2026.
