The controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Lagos State took another turn yesterday when a chairmanship aspirant called for the congress to be canceled.
Mr. Fouad Oki, chairman of the APC Democrats, a major bloc in the party, said the congress should be canceled because it was held under a balkanized Local Government system that was not recognized by the 1999 constitution.

Oki claimed that despite purchasing a nomination form, he was denied entry to the congress held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Oki told reporters yesterday that the congress violated Section 3 (2) and Part 1 of the First Schedule of the 1999 constitution, Section 156 of the Electoral Act, and Article 33 I of the APC constitution, 2014, as well as the APC Guidelines for State Congresses.

In his response, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Seye Oladejo, stated that the congress followed “in totality the guidelines stipulated by the national caretaker committee,” claiming that Oki failed in the same mission three years ago.
