As part of its educational sponsorship program for the academic year 2025–2026, the Nigerian Army has launched a statewide verification and screening exercise for children of fallen servicemen.
“The exercise will take place across the six geopolitical zones between February and March 2026,” the Nigerian Army said in a notification issued on its official X handle on Thursday.
The announcement stated, “The sponsorship is one of the welfare programs in the Nigerian Army that aims to guarantee primary, secondary, and tertiary education for the children of personnel who died in active service.”
According to the announcement, the South-South zone exercise would take place at Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from February 23 to 26, 2026.
The South-West exercise will be held at the Headquarters, 82 Division, Ibadan, Oyo State, from March 5 to 8, 2026, while the South-East verification will be held at the Headquarters, 82 Division, Enugu, Enugu State, from February 28 to March 3, 2026.
The North-East screening is set for March 11–14, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Armour Corps Headquarters in Bauchi, Bauchi State, the Army said. The exercise will take place at the Headquarters of the 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna, Kaduna State, in the North-West from March 16 to 20, 2026.
The North Central zone and the Federal Capital Territory exercise would be held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, from March 23 to 27, 2026, according to the statement.
For the screening, the Army asked candidates to bring all required paperwork.
According to the notice, “Applicants must submit a handwritten letter of application that includes the children’s names, an admission letter (including a JAMB admission letter, if applicable), their most recent report card or results, a letter confirming their enrollment or status as students, birth certificates, and Part II orders of birth.”
In addition, it stated that “the deceased personnel’s death certificate and Part II order of death, a letter of condolence, a notification of casualty, two recent passport photos of the deceased officer or soldier and the beneficiary, account number details, telephone number, school fee receipt, bank verification number, and a first-page printout of the bank statement displaying account name and number are additional required documents.”
