APC wins supplementary election for Kankia constituency of Katsina State

Salisu Rimaye, a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), was announced to be the victor of the supplementary election that took place on Saturday in the Kankia constituency of Katsina State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The outcome of the election was announced by the INEC Returning Officer, Dr. Kamaluddeen Kabo of the Federal University, Dutsinma, in Kankia.

According to Kabo, Rimaye received 18, 157 votes, which was enough to win the election and defeat Abdullahi Ibrahim of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who received 16, 763 votes.

He stated that there were 78, 224 people who were registered to vote, 37, 030 people who were accredited to vote, and that there were 35, 037 valid votes cast in total.

There was a total of 35, 548 votes cast, but only 511 votes were disregarded.

“I Dr. Kamaladdeen Kabo, the Returning officer for the Kankia, State Constituency election, held on April 15, 2023, hereby certify that Salisu Rimaye of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” he said. The election took place on April 15, 2023.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the supplementary election was held in polling units that were located in the following wards: Galadima A, Galadima B, Tsa, and Rimaye. Each of these wards had one polling unit, except for the Tafashiya ward, which had two polling units.
