The All Progressives Congress (APC) began holding its ward congresses in the 23 local government areas of Benue State on Wednesday, resulting in a high level of security.
Choosing new ward executives and delegates for the party’s next congresses is the goal of the exercise.
Benjamin Omale, the party’s state chairman, stated that Governor Hyacinth Alia’s security setup was intended to guarantee a smooth and orderly procedure.
“Enough security personnel have been deployed throughout the state to prevent disruptions and protect party members taking part in the exercise,” he said.
Under the direction of Auwalu Ishaye, the chairman of the Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, crucial electoral documents were dispersed at the Makurdi party secretariat as early as 7 am, according to Daily Trust.
Speaking to party leaders prior to the exercise, Ishaye affirmed his faith in the people’s peaceful nature and advised all parties involved to behave appropriately in order to ensure a seamless process.
Earlier, Omale urged election officers to maintain discipline and order, emphasizing the need of closely adhering to rules set down by the National Working Committee of the party.
In order to ensure that the congresses were held without any incidents, he reaffirmed that the state administration has increased security in all 23 local government areas.
According to reports, State Organising Secretary James Ornguga clarified that each ward’s congress would yield 27 members of the executive committee in addition to 10 delegates, five for the state congress and five for the local government congress.
The national electoral committees of the party were sent to the state chapter from the national headquarters to oversee the procedure, he revealed.
He claims that the committees consist of an appeal committee to resolve conflicts, a ward and local government congress committee, a screening committee, and a screening appeal committee.
According to Ornguga, the distribution of materials was prompted by the screening committees’ certification that the state was prepared for the exercise.
Five delegates for the state congress and five more for the local government congress will be elected today, along with the ward executives, Ornguga was cited by the media as saying.
The majority of the seats had single candidates, which decreased the possibility of fierce competitions, he said, adding that he was hopeful the exercise would be pleasant.
The procedure was anticipated to smoothly introduce new ward structures throughout the state, Ornguga continued, with security bolstered and party loyalists remaining composed.
